Special Agent

If you are interested in applying for a position with the FBI as a Special Agent there are some preliminary requirements that must be met. You must be a United States citizen, no younger than twenty-three, and you must not have reached the age of thirty-seven by the time you are hired.  All candidates must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited, four-year resident program at a college or university. Prior to employment, all candidates must complete a rigorous application process. Successful completion of a written test and an interview are followed by a thorough background investigation that includes credit and arrest checks, interview of associates, contacts with personal and business references, an interview of past employers and neighbors, and verification of educational achievements. Drug testing, a polygraph examination, and a physical examination are required. The completed background investigation is then assessed for a final decision on hiring.

If you live in the territory covered by the Richmond Division, please contact the Richmond FBI Office. We will be happy to forward information to you in the mail. Check out the FBI's main Employment section for additional information on the Special Agent position.
