Richmond Man Sentenced for Armed Bank Robbery
( Richmond , VA ) - Larry Donnell Frye, age 49, of Richmond, Virginia, was sentenced yesterday by United States District Judge Henry E. Hudson to 250 months’ incarceration for the armed bank robbery of Wachovia Bank in Carytown. Frye was found guilty of the charge by a jury on February 18, 2008. Chuck Rosenberg, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; and Jennifer Love, Special-Agent-in-Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, announced the sentence.
Evidence at trial established that on February 21, 2006, Frye entered the Wachovia Bank located at 3201 West Cary Street, Richmond, Virginia, while masked and brandishing a firearm. Frye vaulted the teller counter, held the tellers at gunpoint, and took over $3900 in U.S. currency from the tellers’ drawers. Officers recovered clothing, stained from exploding dye packs taken by the robber, a few blocks from the bank. The clothing matched the description of the robber’s clothing provided by the victims. Forensic tests established that Frye was a contributor to DNA found on that clothing.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Richmond Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Elizabeth Wu.
