Colonial Heights Area Man Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography Charges
( Richmond, VA) - Sean A. Mims, 38, of Colonial Heights, Virginia pled guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography today in United States District Court. Chuck Rosenberg, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell, made the announcement after the plea was accepted by United States Magistrate Judge Dennis W. Dohnal.
According to court documents, analysis of Mims' home computer revealed thousands of images and dozens of movies of child pornography saved under Mims' profile and in variously labeled folders on Mims’ computer hard drives. Police were alerted to the child pornography after family members discovered the material on the computer.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, Virginia has identified dozens of children appearing in the child pornography images from Mims' computer as past sexual abuse victims discovered through law enforcement investigations worldwide.
The Colonial Heights Police Department and the Chesterfield County Police Department assisted in the investigation of this case. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Gene Fishel and Assistant United States Attorney Brian Hood.
